Recurring Pattern Inventory

For when the same kind of problem keeps appearing in different forms.

The exercise

If the same kind of problem keeps appearing in different forms, the pattern matters more than the latest example.

Pick one recurring issue. Then answer:

  1. Where does this pattern show up most often: work, leadership, money, relationships, health, creative work, faith/calling/meaning, time/commitments, or something else?
  2. What are three recent examples of the pattern?
  3. What do those examples have in common?
  4. What role do you usually play in the pattern?
  5. What do you usually say to justify your role?
  6. What do other people probably experience from you when this pattern is active?
  7. What does the pattern protect you from feeling, risking, admitting, or choosing?
  8. What has this pattern cost you in the last year?
  9. What will it cost if it continues for another year?
  10. What would change immediately if the pattern stopped being acceptable?
Completion promptThe pattern I keep repeating is ________. The role I play in keeping it alive is ________. The cost of continuing is ________.

I completed the Recurring Pattern Inventory. Help me see the pattern without turning it into a character judgment.

Look for:
1. The pattern that repeats across situations.
2. The role I may be playing in keeping it alive.
3. The payoff I may be getting from the pattern.
4. The cost of continuing it.
5. One interruption that would change the pattern in practice.

Do not moralize. Do not diagnose me. Be direct, practical, and concise.

Here are my answers:

If this creates clarity but not movement

That is useful information. Sometimes the problem is not that you need more analysis. It is that the next step requires pressure, counsel, and a conversation with someone outside the situation.

If you want to inquire about a Clarity Session, send a short note with the completed exercise and a few sentences about why this matters now.
